چکیده

increases over controls were found when root segments were incubated in phosphorus solutions containing 10-3 A D)NP ancd at lowx temlperatture. The increased Pi in Al-roots did niot result in an increase in the total amounit of l)hosphorus incorporated into phosphorylated compounds. Aluminum treatnment miiarkedly decreased the incorporation of P32 into sigar phosl)hates but increased the pool size of ATP and other nucleotide triphosphates present in the roots. The specific activities of P32 in ATP in Al-roots and( controls wvere similar inidicating that the rates of ATIP synthesis wvere similar in eaclh case. Preliniinarv investigation.s showed that aluminum citrate inhibited both lpurified yeast liexokilase and phosphorylated sgtiar pro(ldtution by crud(le nllitoclloli(lrial extracts fron harley roots. T'he results suggest that there are 2 reactionis betwxecil aluminum and i phosphorts: I ) at the cell suirface or in the free space which results in the fixation of phosphate by

Green synthesis of Se nanoparticles and its effect on salt tolerance of barley plants

In this study, selenite ions were reduced to selenium nanoparticles using a leaf extract of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants. Characterization of synthesized nanoparticles using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible spectrophotometry indicated the formation of variable size of selenium nanoparticles, suggesting that leaf extract could form polydispersed nanoparti...

Simulated Low-gravity Environments and Respiratory Metabolism in Avena Seedlings.

Using horizontal and vertical axis clinostats and sand-grown oat seedlings (Avena sativa), it was found that horizontal clinostat rotation at 2 rpm increased respiration and inorganic and organic phosphorus content of seedlings. Increased coleoptile geotropism and root growth are attributed to rotational nullification of the directional component of the gravitational stimulus. These growth modi...

Alcohol dehydrogenase 1 of barley modulates susceptibility to the parasitic fungus Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei

Plant primary energy metabolism is profoundly reorganized under biotic stress conditions and there is increasing evidence for a role for the fermentative pathway in biotic interactions. However, the mechanisms regulating metabolic reprogramming are not well understood despite its critical function in the biotic stress response. Here the function of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) in the interaction...

A new insight into application for barley chromosome addition lines of common wheat: achievement of stigmasterol accumulation.

Barley (Hordeum vulgare) has a much higher content of bioactive substances than wheat (Triticum aestivum). In order to investigate additive and/or synergistic effect(s) on the phytosterol content of barley chromosomes, we used a series of barley chromosome addition lines of common wheat that were produced by normal crossing. In determining the plant sterol levels in 2-week-old seedlings and dry...

Contrasting responses of root morphology and root-exuded organic acids to low phosphorus availability in three important food crops with divergent root traits

Phosphorus (P) is an important element for crop productivity and is widely applied in fertilizers. Most P fertilizers applied to land are sorbed onto soil particles, so research on improving plant uptake of less easily available P is important. In the current study, we investigated the responses in root morphology and root-exuded organic acids (OAs) to low available P (1 μM P) and sufficient P ...
